Features and Flaws of the New Sony Vaio EC Notebook

Sony has been making computers and other high tech devices for many decades, and the Sony Vaio EC Notebook is one of their lower priced lines of notebooks. For those of you that are aware of how functional a desktop computer can be, this notebook can match the processing speed and capabilities of most PCs. As with any product that we review, we will list both the positive and negative aspects of this particular product.

Many different software products are included with the Sony Vaio EC Notebook. Most people will be able to use the Vaio EC right out of the box without the necessity of adding any additional software programs, although you can install whatever additional applications you desire. The Windows version that comes with the Vaio EC notebooks is Windows 7 Home Premium. For a word processor and spreadsheet, you get Microsoft Office Starter, which contains limited editions of MS Word and MS Excel. With all of this already installed for you, it's possible to use these applications immediately. However, if you need more full-featured versions, it's an easy matter to upgrade to one of the more advanced versions. To keep your new notebook protected, the Vaio EC line comes with a 30-day free trial of the Norton Anti-Virus program. You'll also love the multi-media selection, which gives you PhotoShop Elements and Premium Elements, as well as Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard. You may eventually decide to upgrade the software that comes with the Vaio EC, but you have more than enough pre-installed applications to begin using the Notebook until you can figure out if you need anything else.

You're going to love the beauty of the liquid crystal display on the Vaio EC Notebook. It measures in at a user-friendly 17.3" and will make anything you do with your computer - whether it's movies, games, or article writing - easier and more pleasant. The images and colors are quite clear and vivid, so this computer is good for viewing graphics, playing games or watching videos. Your work will flow more easily because the width of this monitor will allow you to have all the applications you need to work with open concurrently. Two features that are really great about the Vaio EC Notebook that you won't find in smaller versions are it's portability from room to room in your home and the fact that it has the power to handle numerous programs simultaneously, like a conventional desktop PC.

The speakers on the Vaio EC Notebook are adequate for most purposes, but not as clear or powerful as you might expect from a Sony product, especially a larger than average notebook. People that are gamers that enjoy the surround sound effects that make most games believable may not enjoy this particular system. Although most people will listen to movies or music with headphones, it is still good to disclose this particular drawback on this computer. If you take your laptop to a public setting, most people plug in their headphones because it's easier to hear with than using speakers. For those of you that play movies or listen to music moving by your laptop around your house, the sound, and the quality of the sound, is not really going to be that good. If you need a portable computer that emulates many of the hardware features found on most personal computers, such as an irregularly sized keyboard, this will probably do the job. The appearance of this particular notebook, as well as the limited battery life, are also things you should consider before purchasing. As a desktop replacement, you can't do any better in this price range than the Sony Vaio EC Notebook.
